Aggarwal made this announcement on the first day of the 3rd Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet. The two-day meeting is being held in the state capital Chennai.
“When this (gigafactory) becomes operational next month, we (Ola Electric) will be the first to manufacture lithium ion cells in India. This will mark an important milestone in the EV transition in the country,” Deccan Herald quoted As Agarwal is saying.
The leader of the Bengaluru-based company further said that when fully operational, the facility will have a 25,000-strong workforce.
Ola Electric Gigafactory
Conceived by Ola Electric as the largest cell factory in India and one of the largest such facilities in the world, construction of the Gigafactory begins with a capacity of 100 MW. When commissioned, the plant, which is spread over 115 acres, will operate at an initial capacity of 5GWh; Further, it will be expanded to a full capacity of 100 GWh in phases.
At the Gigafactory, Ola Electric will increase production of its in-house 4680 cells.
