The meeting of top leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is going to be held in Delhi on 25 December. Top leaders of the alliance will gather at the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda at 4 pm and discuss hosting. Issues including recent Ambedkar controversy.
The top two agendas of this meeting are the controversy over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar as well as ensuring better coordination among the NDA allies. NDTV quoted sources as saying that all senior NDA leaders will be present in the meeting.
It is expected that NDA allies will respond to the Congress party on the Ambedkar controversy. The report said the allies may also deliberate on key laws like One Nation One Election and the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and finalize a strategy. Both the bills have been sent to a joint parliamentary panel for thorough scrutiny.
The day of the meeting, December 25, also marks the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Opposition is cornering Amit Shah
During the recently concluded winter session of Parliament, the opposition started cornering Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his statement on Bhimrao Ambedkar in Parliament. Congress has demanded the resignation of the Home Minister over his controversial speech in the Rajya Sabha.
“Now it has become a fashion to say – Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. “If they had taken God’s name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven,” Shah is heard saying in the video.
Last week, protests over Amit Shah’s remarks outside Parliament’s Makar Gate took a dramatic turn with a scuffle between NDA and India Bloc MPs. Two BJP MPs – Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput – were injured during the protest. The BJP accused Rahul Gandhi, leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, of promoting Sarangi and Rajput.
After the incident, Delhi Police registered an FIR against Rahul Gandhi.

Reports have suggested that the BJP may discuss seat sharing for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections 2025. The saffron party may give some seats to Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) and Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). For the Delhi Assembly elections 2025 to be held early next year.
In the last Parliament session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged NDA allies to hold meetings every month for better coordination.
