What is ‘Dinga Dinga’: After the Corona epidemic, if someone hears about a mysterious disease, it is natural to be worried. Similarly, a mysterious disease named ‘Dinga Dinga’ remains a matter of concern. This disease has emerged in Uganda, Africa and is in the news due to its mysterious nature. ‘Dinga Dinga’ means ‘to move like dancing.’ This mysterious disease is mainly affecting women and girls in Bundibugyo district of Uganda. Due to which there is uncontrolled vibration in his body and difficulty in walking.
Hundreds of people, mostly women and children, have been literally shaken by this. Although no one has died from it yet, but according to local media reports, this disease is spreading rapidly in the African country and health officials are trying to find out its cause.

What are the symptoms of dinga-dinga?
According to a report by Firstpost English, this strange disease, which first appeared in Bundibugyo district of Uganda, has many disturbing symptoms. The most notable of which is excessive body movement with dance-like movements. Along with this, victims also experience high fever, extreme weakness and in some cases, feeling paralyzed. Local media reports say that it becomes almost impossible for the affected people to walk. Because uncontrolled vibration makes it difficult to walk.

What did the victim say about the disease?
One patient, Patience Katusime, shared her personal experience of the disease, describing how her body would tremble uncontrollably despite being paralyzed. “I felt weak and paralyzed,” the 18-year-old told Ugandan newspaper Monitor. Whenever I tried to walk, my body started shaking uncontrollably.” “It was very disturbing,” he said. “I was taken to Bundibugyo Hospital for treatment and thank God I am fine now.”

300 cases have been reported
So far, the disease has been confirmed only in Bundibugyo, where about 300 cases have been recorded. However, there is no information about anyone’s death. This disease, first detected in early 2023, is still under investigation. Health laboratories are working to find out the cause. The samples have been sent to the Ugandan Ministry of Health for further analysis.
The outbreak comes just months after a new strain of mpox was reported in Uganda and other East African countries. Due to which the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the extremely deadly Clade 1B variant as a global public health emergency. The strain has since spread to other continents, and cases have been found in several countries in Europe and Asia.

What is the treatment for dinga dinga?
District Health Officer Dr. Kiyita Christopher said that Dinga Dinga can usually be treated with antibiotics provided by community health teams. Although some patients are turning to herbal remedies to ease their symptoms, health officials strongly discourage this practice. Dr. Christopher said, “There is no scientific evidence that this disease can be treated with herbal medicine. “We are using special medicines, and patients usually recover within a week.”

Mysterious disease in Congo too
While Uganda is battling ‘Dinga Dinga’, its neighbor, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is battling another mysterious disease. Which the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has referred to as ‘Disease X’. The health department in Panzi, a province in Kwango, has reported 406 cases of the unknown disease since the end of October. Sadly, authorities have confirmed at least 79 deaths, most of which are children under five years of age. Its symptoms include fever, headache, cough, body ache, difficulty in breathing and runny nose. More severe cases are associated with malnutrition and anemia.
