New Delhi: The war continues between Ukraine and Russia. Both the countries are attacking each other from time to time. However, after the election of Donald Trump as the new President of America, there was hope that the war between Russia and Ukraine would be resolved. But this does not seem to be happening. Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed on Friday (22 November) that Russia’s hypersonic Orashnik missile, which was fired on Ukraine on Thursday, cannot be tracked and shot down. He has also ordered the start of serial production of the missile. It is clear from his order that he is in a mood to destroy Ukraine.
Putin has said that “I would also like to say that today in the world there is no countermeasure to such a missile, there is no means to stop it. And I would like to emphasize once again that we will continue testing this latest system. It is necessary to establish its serial production.” During a televised meeting with his military chiefs, the Russian President said the country needed to start serial production of the missile. “This decision… has been effectively taken,” Putin said.

How dangerous is this weapon of Putin for Ukraine?
Meanwhile, the investigation conducted by Ukraine has revealed that the hypersonic missile that attacked the Ukrainian city of Dnipro had the highest speed of 13,000 km/h. A report said that the missile took only 15 minutes to reach the target (Ukrainian military facility). The Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of the Ukrainian Army revealed, “The flight time of this Russian missile from the moment of launch in the Astrakhan region to its impact in the city of Dnipro was 15 minutes. The missile was armed with six warheads: each carrying six submunitions. “The speed in the last part of the trajectory was more than Mach 11.”
Putin further said in his statement that this weapon travels at a speed of Mach 10 or 2.5-3 km per second (10 times the speed of sound), adding that “there is no way to counter this weapon”. He said a major military-industrial site in Dnipro, used to manufacture missiles and other weapons, was attacked. He described the attack as a test which was “successful” as “the target was reached”.
Why is missile speed important?
If the Russian President’s words are true then the missile is slightly above the definition of hypersonic. Speed is important because the speed with which the missile travels is the speed with which it reaches the target. The faster it reaches the target, the less time the defending forces have to react. Therefore, while announcing this new type of missile, Putin has emphasized on its speed.
