Seema Sajdeh swears
As art collector Shalini Pasi’s liquid diet, which includes a generous shot of ghee every morning, is making headlines, we found a gem in designer Seema’s do-it-yourself (DIY) nightly ritual: slugging.
Even though the name sounds strange, it is nothing. On Season 3 of the show, she discusses the benefits of applying petroleum jelly to your skin with social media personality and star’s BFF, Orhan Avtramani, aka Ori. We decided to get all the food from him.
“It’s clear that your skin loses moisture as you age. So whatever your night routine is, just top it off with ample amount of Vaseline or petroleum jelly and go to sleep. In the morning you will see that your skin has absorbed moisture, making it glow.” She adds, ”Neelam is always worried about acne. I told him that this would not increase the problem and he also tried it.
Doctor’s input on slugging
Renowned cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Kiran Sethi is a fan of it and says it is extremely effective for people who have dry, sensitive skin and are not acne-prone. “It creates a barrier between your skin, the elements and pollution. When you do this, your skin retains water, and you can stay more hydrated. Therefore, it prevents the possibility of epidermal water loss from flowing out of your skin up to 100 percent.’
So, is slugging for everyone?
Dr. Kiran Sethi says slugging is for everyone but comes with a caveat. “If you have very dry skin, you can do this every day, but if you’re acne-prone, slugging may not be for you, as sometimes it can clog your pores.”
