NSRCEL, the startup incubator of IIM Bangalore, in collaboration with the Center for Research on Start-ups and Risk Financing (CREST) at IIT Madras, released its joint research report titled ‘India Incubator Kaleidoscope 2024’.
The report was launched in the presence of Amitabh Kant – G20 Sherpa, Govt. India as part of NSRCEL’s flagship event, SummitUp, was joined by Hrishikesh T Krishnan, Director of IIM Bangalore, Anand Sri Ganesh, CEO of NSRCEL and others.
The joint report was led by Professor Thillai Rajan A, Head of CREST and Professor of Finance in the Department of Management Studies at IIT Madras, and Professor Srivardhini K Jha, Professor of Entrepreneurship at IIM Bangalore and Chairman of NSRCEL.

According to a press release, the report provides key insights and recommendations to policymakers and business leaders on creating and nurturing startup incubators, which are essential for job creation and economic growth.
Another key finding of the report is that Chennai and Bengaluru lead the startup ecosystem with their high concentration of industry and academic incubators, the release said.
Highlighting the report, Professor Shrivardhini Jha said that it reflects the activities and impact of incubators, and focuses on the need to increase the level of incubation activity across the country and enhance the quality of incubation efforts.

Professor Thillai Rajan A pointed out that the narrative on the Indian startup ecosystem centers around start-ups and investors, and this report highlights incubators, a critical link in the startup value creation chain.
Research shows that incubators increase the credibility of the startups they support, he said, adding that incubated startups are two and a half times more likely to be funded than non-incubated startups.
Amitabh Kant pointed out that incubators play a very important role in the development of the Indian startup ecosystem, and their contribution has been increasing in recent years.
He said, “I am happy to note that two of the best institutions in the country have joined hands to bring out timely and relevant publications on incubators. Their findings confirm the policy emphasis on incubators and suggest how the incubation landscape can be further enriched through various interventions.
Professor Hrishikesh T. Krishnan said the value of innovation cannot be overstated, and incubators play a vital role in supporting the unique needs of diverse creators, not only by accelerating grassroots growth but also by leveling the playing field. Let’s fulfill.

Professor V. Kamakoti stressed the need for India to become a ‘Startup Nation’ to make the country a superpower and said that the report addresses this important point and challenges.
