From reducing cramps to improving mood, omega-3 fats have many benefits during menstruation.
Omega-3 fats – eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) – are known to provide healthy nutrition to the body. Especially when a woman is going through menstruation, the body undergoes hormonal changes, and it is important to pay attention to the morning diet so that the body gets the necessary nutrients. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, dietician Sheenam said, “A woman goes through several changes associated with hormonal changes during menstruation such as a drop in the amount of estrogen and progesterone. The drop in the levels of these two important hormones leads to the release of proinflammatory compounds called prostaglandins. These compounds are primarily responsible for uterine contractions and pain also known as dysmenorrhea.”
