New Delhi. The Russian army is currently raining shells and ammunition on the land of Ukraine day and night. Amidst all this, Indian citizens serving in the Russian army are also caught in the war. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had informed the Parliament a day earlier that 69 such Indian citizens are still working in the Russian army, who were recruited in an illegal manner. Now an official statement has also come from Russia in this matter. The Russian Embassy in India clarified that the Indians present in their army had signed the agreement on their own will.
In a press release issued by the Russian Embassy, it was said that the media requested us to answer the question of the presence of Indians in the Russian army. We express our condolences on the loss of Indians present in the Russian army during the military operation in Ukraine. Agencies of both the countries are working together to identify Indians who have voluntarily signed contracts with the Russian army and release them from services. All the terms and conditions related to the contract and their payment will be fully followed.

Ban imposed on recruitment of Indians…
The Russian embassy further said that since April this year, the Russian Defense Ministry has not signed contracts for recruiting people from many countries including India in the army. The embassy wants to make it clear that the Russian government has never run any public campaign under which Indians are recruited for the Russian army in an illegal manner.
