Planets, stars and galaxies are some of the exciting words that have been mentioned in our science books for years. Despite the amazing information and stories behind their formation, it is their pictures that pique our curiosity about space and the world beyond. Most of the pictures of distant planets, galaxies and nebulae that we see on social media and TV channels are captured by high-powered instruments like the Hubble and James Webb telescopes in space. Get a glimpse of the universe captured by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope.
Interacting galaxies
It’s hard to be alone in this vast universe, and the same is true for massive galaxies, which keep interacting with each other. According to Swinburne University of Technology, an interacting galaxy is in the process of being affected by another galaxy. Two interacting galaxies are often called “colliding galaxies,” and can be informally imagined as two galaxies colliding with each other.

UGC 3912 is a spiral galaxy whose warped shape resulted from a gravitational collision with another galaxy. When galaxies join together, either by colliding or colliding with each other’s gravitational fields, their stars, dust and gas can be pulled along new paths, according to NASA. UGC 3912 may have once been an orderly-looking spiral, but it looks like it has been knocked shapeless by a giant thumb.

This fascinating image sums up the harmonious relationship between two galaxies. This friendly pair is known as Arp-Mador 2339-661. They are so named because they belong to the Arp-Mador catalog of peculiar galaxies. However, this particular feature may be even stranger than it appears at first glance, as there are actually not two but three galaxies interacting here.
This image shows the interaction between three galaxies: NGC 7733 (smaller, bottom right), NGC 7734 (larger, top left), NGC 7733N, and if you look carefully the upper arm of NGC 7733 can actually be seen in this image.

The fascinating triangular shape is the result of a head-on collision between two galaxies. The interacting galaxy pair is collectively called Arp 143. The pair contains the bright, warped, star-forming spiral galaxy NGC 2445 on the right, and its less bright companion, NGC 2444, on the left.

The galactic triplet Arp 248 consists of three galaxies located about 200 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Virgo. The two large spiral galaxies seen in this image — which are on either side of a smaller, unrelated background spiral galaxy — appear to be connected by a bright bridge.

This image taken by NASA shows the effect of three-way gravitational pull on two galaxies of the Arp 195 system. The system is shown in an atlas of peculiar galaxies.

The Antennae Galaxies are a merged pair of galaxies located about 62 million light-years from Earth. The name of these two galaxies is a result of their appearance, which resembles antenna-like tails.
