“The date for counselling will be announced after the process is over to ensure that seats in the new colleges are taken in the first round itself,” an official source said. PTI,
Amid demands for cancellation of NEET-UG 2024 over alleged irregularities and question paper leak, the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday told the Supreme Court that cancelling it without evidence of large-scale privacy breach would be counterproductive as it could “seriously jeopardise” lakhs of honest candidates.
The Centre has filed an affidavit on a batch of petitions pending before the Supreme Court seeking withdrawal of NEET-UG 2024 results and direction to conduct fresh exams.
The Education Ministry said that the requests raised in the petitions for cancellation and re-examination of exams are based on “conjectures” and “speculations” and should be rejected.
The NTA had said in an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court that the alleged irregularities had taken place only at Patna and Godhra centres and the entire exam should not be cancelled on the basis of individual incidents.
The court was also informed that a high-level panel has been constituted to suggest measures for effective, smooth and transparent conduct of the examinations by the NTA.
The Supreme Court will hear the case on July 8.
