Extremely particular about his work and choice of clothing, fun and quirky – that’s what best describes Ishaan Khatter’s personality and acting. Since the actor shot exclusively with HT City Showstoppers, it was a real delight to see him get involved in the entire process from start to finish and become the creative director himself before every shot.
“I don’t like to sleepwalk into anything,” he jokes, “When you do a shoot like this, there always has to be a collaborative energy, and that’s the only way you can move forward smoothly. So, as long as it’s welcome, I’m happy to collaborate. Whatever kind of shoot it is, as long as we’re here to create something, I’ll keep giving you my creative inputs.”
Experiment with personal style
Talking about her personal style, Khattar says her sense of fashion has “grown and evolved over time”.
He elaborated, “I have found a niche for myself and I am comfortable in it, and I don’t overcomplicate it. I like to keep it simple. And as far as shoots and work are concerned, I do put a little more thought into it, but if I am travelling or just going out for a movie or dinner, I just like to be comfortable. So, I follow the basic rule, wear things that flatter your frame and colour coding and things like that. I don’t really put much thought into it. I just choose what is comfortable to wear that day.”
For someone who made her acting debut in an unconventional film beyond the clouds (2017), the actor said that he was completely open to the idea of trying something new and different with his style.
“I have never shied away from experimenting, in fact, it’s something I’ve definitely enjoyed over the years. But, from what’s available to me, I have my own aesthetics and rulebook that I follow. I take inspiration from a lot of classic looks that I’ve seen over the years. I don’t mind experimenting with a slightly more androgynous style,” says the actor, who is best known for films such as dhadak (2018), Khaali Peeled (2020) and Pippa (2023).
However, Khattar is quick to add that when it comes to formal dressing, he prefers to opt for a look that is well-crafted. “I don’t want to take my formal dressing too casually. I have found a comfort zone that is cool and sleek. So, I prefer putting together good outfits and silhouettes that look good in a formal way,” he said.
Instagram is going strong with the game
Khattar often posts thirst-quenching posts of his stylish, shirtless and dashing pictures on Instagram. When asked if he reads all the comments that come on his posts, Khattar admitted that he does read fans’ comments.
“And sometimes it can be quite entertaining, interesting and creative. It feels great when there’s a lot of positivity in the comments and there’s a lot of it, so I’m grateful to the fans and followers for that,” the actor said, admitting that he’s just “having fun” and “doesn’t take social media too seriously.”
Here Khattar explained that gradually a pattern has formed in his relationship with social media.
“I realise that when I am working and shooting for long hours, I don’t post about work very often. I like to work quietly and keep that part aside. So, I don’t really engage with social media when I am shooting and that is something that has been with me since the beginning. I like to be immersed in my workspace and my character,” says the actor, adding that he likes to play with social media only when he has the time.
“I will post little things and glimpses of my life. For example, sometimes we will do something creative and fun, like shooting with (celebrity photographer) Rohan Shrestha, which was just a test shoot. So, whenever I have time, I suddenly post on my social media pages,” he says.
