Reliance heiress Isha Ambani’s honouring the magic of IVF or in-vitro fertilisation is a full circle moment, as she herself is an IVF baby. In a recent interview with Vogue India, Isha emphasised that opting for IVF does not need to be hidden and instead should be consciously normalised so that the word can be spread far and wide to those who are struggling to conceive. She said, “If the world has modern technology today, why not use it to have children? It should be something you are excited about, not something you have to hide.” Let’s take a look at Isha’s IVF journey, along with some other prominent celebrities who chose to go the same route.
Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal
Isha’s interview revisited the topic that mother Nita Ambani also opted for IVF when it came to conceiving. Reliance tycoon Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita were blessed with their first children, twins Isha and Akash, on October 23, 1991, all thanks to IVF. So when it came to conceiving her own children, it was no difficult task for Isha. She said, “I am very quick to say that my twins were conceived through IVF because that’s how we will normalise it, right? No one should feel isolated or embarrassed. It is a difficult process.” Isha and her husband Anand Piramal were blessed with twins Aadya and Krishna on November 19, 2022, almost 4 years after their wedding in 2018.
shahrukh khan and gauri khan
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan were already parents to son Aryan Khan and daughter Suhana Khan when they decided to have a third child. Cute little AbRam Khan joined the family on May 27, 2013, albeit prematurely. Shah Rukh and Gauri reportedly tried unsuccessfully to conceive for 2 years before they had AbRam after consulting Dr. Jatin P. Shah.
Dr Shah is an IVF and Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) specialist who was recommended to Salman Khan by his younger brother Sohail Khan. Sohail had his younger son Yohan with his ex-wife Seema Sajdeh through IVF and surrogacy in 2011.
Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao
Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao got married in December 2005. Though both were adamant about having a child together, it only became possible several years later when their son Azad Rao Khan was born in 2011. Azad is also an IVF baby. Kiran and Aamir opted for IVF after multiple miscarriages and health complications during their attempts to conceive a child over a period of 5 years. Opening up about his IVF journey, Aamir told PTI in an interview, “Kiran and I both wanted a child and when Azad was born, we were both very happy and we both wanted to be honest about it with people”. Although Aamir and Kiran got divorced in 2021, they continue to maintain a good relationship and are raising Azad together.

kim kardashian and kanye west
Anyone who really kept up with the Kardashians during their early years on television knows full well that Kim’s pregnancy journey with her first-born, North, was absolutely debilitating in terms of her health. It was not surprising, then, that Kim opted for IVF to conceive her second child and first son, Saint West. However, health complications with this pregnancy got even worse, forcing the entrepreneur to opt for surrogacy to give birth to her youngest children, daughter Chicago West, born in 2018, and son Psalm West, born in 2019. Although Kim and Kanye are divorced, Kim is now a happy mother of 4 children.
Paris Hilton and the Carter Room
Paris Hilton actually opted for IVF on the advice of her former assistant and now friend, Kim K. Paris froze her first round of eggs at age 30. She met her now-husband, author Carter Reum, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. “Carter and I were already talking about the future and then the world shut down, so I thought, ‘What do you think about us making embryos?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, let’s do that,’” she told Glamour UK during an interview last year. Paris and Carter are now parents to 16-month-old son Phoenix and 6-month-old daughter London.
Other notable names who have adopted the IVF technique to conceive include Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder, Ekta Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor and even Michelle Obama and Barack Obama.
