The Union Public Service Commission conducted the UPSC Prelims Exam 2024 today. The exam was conducted for two papers, Paper-I which was held from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, and Paper-II, which was held from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. UPSC CSE Prelims Exam Latest Updates
In terms of difficulty level, most candidates said that both papers were relatively easier compared to last year, and most of the questions came as expected. In this article, we will take a look at the paper-wise responses of the candidates.
Candidates’ responses to Paper 1:
- Rahul, a candidate who appeared for the UPSC Civil Services (Preliminary) examination at BS College, Danapur, Patna, said he had solved 80-90 per cent of the paper and described it as of moderate level.
- Preeti Kumar of BS College, Danapur, Patna said that the paper was easier this time compared to last year and expressed confidence of doing well. She said that sections like science and technology had easy questions.
- Candidate Priyanka said that the question paper was not long and she solved 70-80 questions.
- Ajay Kumar, who appeared for the exam for the first time, said that the paper went well.
- Nivedita Kumari said that the paper was of moderate level. She said that the questions from political science were easy.
Candidates’ responses on Paper 2:
- Shivam Kumar, a candidate from Patna, described the paper as easy to moderate and said he had attempted for 80 marks. He said there were changes in the options.
- Brij Kumar from Patna said that both the papers were not difficult but were easier than last year.
- A candidate named Jayant Kumar said that Paper 2 was slightly tougher than Paper 1. He said that candidates who are strong in logical reasoning and know the basics will be more comfortable with Paper 2.

All candidates are required to appear in both papers of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination for evaluation. According to UPSC, if a candidate does not appear in both papers of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination, he/she will be disqualified.
It is noteworthy that the candidates were required to reach the examination hall 30 minutes before the commencement of the examination, i.e. at 9 am in the first session and at 2 pm in the second session.
Heavy security was deployed outside the examination centres, where security personnel were seen frisking candidates and checking their documents before allowing them to enter the examination hall.
With the conclusion of the UPSC CSE prelims, all eyes will now be on the results. Candidates who qualify the preliminary exam will move on to the next and crucial stage, UPSC CSE Mains 2024 and finally the interview or personality test round.
The Commission had said that it will prepare the list of candidates qualified for the Civil Services (Main) Examination based on the criteria of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination and aggregate qualifying marks of 33% in General Studies Paper-I of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination.
As per the revised UPSC exam calendar, the UPSC Civil Services Main exam will be held from September 20.
