Imagine what would have happened if an engine was made to give speed to the vehicle but there were no brakes to stop it? To save a speeding vehicle from an accident, it is important to stop it at the right time. And for the vehicle to stop at the right time, it is also necessary to apply the brakes on time. If you have noticed, you must have seen that two-wheelers like bikes and scooters have separate brakes for front and rear. The bike or scooter can be stopped quickly by pressing both the brakes simultaneously. But you will be surprised to know that this does not happen in the case of cars.
If we talk about a car, it is provided with levers for accelerator, brake and clutch. If you drive a car then you would know that the car does not have separate brakes for front and rear. So how do the car’s brakes work so well despite being so heavy? Let us tell you.
one brake for all four wheels
The car has only one brake, not separate brakes for front and rear. As soon as the brake is pressed in the car, brakes are applied on all four wheels simultaneously. Let us tell you that a dual chamber master cylinder is installed in the car to control the brakes. Its advantage is that all the brakes in the car do not fail simultaneously and if the brakes on one side fail, the other brakes continue to do their work.
Brake sizes are different
The brake capacity is increased or decreased depending on the location of the engine in the car. Most of the cars nowadays are front wheel drive. In these cars, the engine is at the front and hence the weight is more at the front. For this reason, these cars are provided with powerful brakes at the front. At the same time, due to more weight at the rear in rear wheel drive cars, the rear brakes have more power. In a car, brakes are applied 60 percent at the front and 40 percent at the rear. This gives the car a good overall braking power.
