Complex post-traumatic stress disorder or C-PTSD is a disorder where the person experiences PTSD symptoms along with additional symptoms. Feeling angry and distrustful of the world and having difficulty controlling emotions are some additional symptoms of C-PTSD. However, C-PTSD is often a silent struggle for those living with it. C-Internal Symptoms of PTSD
inconsistent emotional state: One of the primary symptoms of C-PTSD is noticing sudden changes in mood and emotions. Emotions seem unpredictable because of the storm within.
constant self-doubt: People with C-PTSD have an inner critic who constantly embarrasses themselves and criticizes their every action and words, causing them to doubt their abilities.
intrusive memories: Emotional imbalance occurs due to sudden flashbacks of past memories and uncomfortable experiences which can disrupt daily life.
avoidance behavior: They deliberately limit their life experiences by staying away from people. Places and situations that may trigger past trauma for them.
overexcitation: It can be difficult for people with C-PTSD to relax and unwind because of their constant state of hyperarousal – they are always on the lookout for imminent danger.
Difficulty in intimacyPeople also face difficulty in being intimate with their loved one due to the thought of heartbreak when they get cheated on in a relationship.
VoidPeople with C-PTSD may feel empty and lonely. They feel an emptiness and have difficulty connecting with themselves.
