New Delhi. If your diesel vehicle is ten years old or petrol vehicle is 15 years old and it is confiscated by the Delhi Transport Department, then you will have only 3 weeks to get your vehicle back. If you do not apply for release of the vehicle within 21 days along with the required documents, your vehicle will be sent for scrapping. This means you will lose your vehicle forever.
The Transport Department of Delhi Government has issued new guidelines for the seized vehicles. According to the new guidelines, documents of seized vehicles will have to be submitted within three weeks. The enforcement agency will give its decision within a week of submission of documents. In Delhi, diesel vehicles which have completed 10 years and petrol vehicles which have completed 15 years are considered to be old.

10 thousand rupees fine
According to the guidelines of Delhi Government on over-aged vehicles, on the seizure of four-wheelers, the owner of the vehicle will have to pay Rs 10,000 as payment amount. Whereas for two wheelers this amount is five thousand rupees. If caught for the first time, the vehicle can be released by paying this amount. After that the vehicle owner will have to send his vehicle for scrap as per the scrap policy. If the vehicle is again found plying in a public place in Delhi, it will not be returned.
Online portal for seized vehicles
An online platform has been created by the Delhi government for the seized vehicles. With this, all the details related to the owner of the vehicle, the enforcement agency and the seized vehicle can be seen on this platform. With the help of this online platform, the entire process can also be tracked.
The matter had reached the court
On March 29 last year, the transport department had launched a drive to seize vehicles that have expired. The vehicles were confiscated and sent for scrapping. There was a lot of opposition to this action of the government because thousands of vehicles were confiscated. The matter reached Delhi High Court. The court had ordered the government to conditionally release the seized vehicles for scrap.
