Too much uric acid in your blood can cause a variety of problems, from arthritis to kidney stones. Uric acid is formed in the body when the body breaks down purines in foods and beverages. While the kidneys usually flush it out, too much of it can remain in the blood and cause a condition called hyperuricemia. Excess uric acid can form crystals and deposit in your joints, causing gout, a form of arthritis. Severe pain in your joints at night, especially in the big toe, is a clear sign of gout. Slightly high uric acid may not show any symptoms but over time it can increase and cause pain and other damage in the body. Hyperuricemia not only damages joints, bones, tendons and ligaments but also leads to other health problems like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease and fatty liver disease. High uric acid can be managed by making several lifestyle changes like consuming more water and making some changes in diet.
An overall healthy lifestyle is important to prevent high uric acid levels.

Avoiding caffeine at the end of the day and automatically It’s also helpful to control alcohol consumption,” says Sonia Bakshi, nutritionist and founder of DTF.
Bakshi suggests 7 herbs that can help reduce uric acid levels. However, it is always advisable to consult your doctor before trying any remedy.
1. Hibiscus: Dried hibiscus or hibiscus tea can help flush out uric acid through urine and can be effective in reducing uric acid levels. Soak in hot water for 5 minutes before drinking.
2 dandelions: Another tea you can drink in the morning is dandelion tea to reduce uric acid levels. Evidence supports that dandelion tea or dandelion extract, available in grocery stores, may help lower uric acid levels.
3. Celery: Grown and trusted since ancient times, celery is rich in various antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-viral properties. Antioxidants found in celery may also help reduce inflammation associated with arthritis.
4. Ginger: Ginger tea or cooking with ginger may also help reduce inflammation. Boil one tablespoon of grated ginger, soak a cloth in it and apply it on the affected joint after it cools down. Do this for 30 minutes daily to see improvements.
5. Banana: One banana a day can be useful in controlling uric acid levels. They contain sufficient amount of potassium for proper functioning of organs. Additionally, the fiber content in it can help remove uric acid from the body.
6. Magnesium: Taking magnesium consistently may help reduce future uric acid flares. Nuts like almonds, cashews and vegetables like spinach and pumpkin are rich in magnesium.
7. Apple Cider Vinegar: It is beneficial for overall health and is also believed to reduce uric acid levels.
