A dramatic video that shows a man trapped in the Tawi River of Jammu, which is clung to the rope, has surfaced on social media. The person, identified as Madan Kumar, got stuck in the middle of the Tawi river after heavy rains overnight, which increased the water level of the river.
As the river used to be angry around him, the man could not move it forward and clung to a rope for his life. In the video, he is shown waiting for help, looking at the people standing in the bank holding a rope with one hand.
He was later rescued by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). According to reports, SDRF personnel dropped a ladder from the bridge and managed to pull it out.
Madan Kumar, 52 -year -old laborers, went to the Tawi river for sand extraction at around 8.45 am, but got stuck due to a sudden increase in water level near Jewel Chowk Bridge in the city. He was trapped in the middle of the rover for about two hours.
According to reports, nine persons, including Madan Kumar, were rescued in a joint operation by police and SDRF teams on Wednesday, June 25, when they were trapped in the Tawi river after a sudden rise in the water level due to rain in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir, said officials said.
Officials said eight more people, who had gone for “Pind Dun”, were rescued in a joint operation by police, traffic police, SDRF and local volunteers.
According to the Meteorological Department, Katra city of Rasi district recorded the highest 108.5 mm rainfall, followed by Rajouri (80 mm), Udhampur district (71.4 mm), Ponch (48 mm) and Ramban (47.5 mm) during the last 24 hours.
The Meteorological Office has predicted light to moderate rains and rusting mantras at several places with the possibility of heavy rains at some places in the Jammu Division till June 27.
